PKM is one of subjects at our campus. Most of students know it as Proyek Kerja Mahasiswa. PKM is different from other subjects that usually held at classroom. While PKM is the creativity of students to make new project, sell the project to other institution, get momerandom of understanding from the institution and the result, the students of STBA LIA get money.

Today, on Friday 19 December 14, we as students of STBA LIA was held PKM at SMKN 1 Kalasan. Our PKM was speech competition. In this speech competition, we gave the theme about “The Importance of English in Globalization Era”. The parcticipants of this competition were students of SMKN1 Kalasan. They really enthusiastic with this event. It was showed when they delivered their speech. The students from 1st grade and 2nd grade looked confident when they joined this event and they did not feel shy to compete with their senior from 3rd grade.

The event was started at 08.00am-11.00am. it was 15 minutes for registration, 15 minutes for opening speech, continue to speech competition, and the last one for giving certificate and gifts to the first, second and third winner. It was surprised us because some of the students who had been the participants have very good English. Their fluency, pronounce, and body language was very support themselves when delivered their speech.

 This school has many vocations such as Tekstil, Kulit, Keramik, Kayu, Tata Boga, logam and Akomodasi Perhotelan. And because of this, we choose SMKN 1 Kalasan as our PKM. The other reasons why we chose this school as our PKM is Akomodasi Perhotelan vocation itself. As we know, Yogyakarta has lot of Hotels, and it needs good workers who able to speak English. To support them preparing well in English, we try to hold this event here. For this event, they can learn many things like how to speak in front of people without feeling nerveous, how the body can support audiance understanding, how their eyes look the audience, etc.

The last, we would like thank to SMKN1 Kalasan, that had been giving us chance to hold our PKM here, we know there are lot of obstacles that we did not know. Hopefully, this event can help students to improve their basic skill of speaking and give them new experience, especially in Speech competition of English.
