Baksos is one of annual agenda at my campus. It’s as an agenda that held every year from my campus. Baksos is not only as a compulsory for new students here, but it more focuses on how the students can care to society. Society in general means a large group of people who live together in an organized way, making decisions about how to do things and sharing the work that needs to be done. Not all people who live in this world get fortune; many of them live just for continuing their life. They didn’t have land to build a house; they didn’t have a good job, because some of them didn’t got high education to make their dreams come true. However, they need study to follow globalization era. That is why, we as students of STBA LIA Yogyakarta want to share what we have by giving them English teaching and recycling things around them that it’s not need at all, especially, for the children at Kali Code, Yogyakarta.

Kali Code is a place in the middle of Yogyakarta city. It’s nearby code bank. That is why; people call it kampong kali code. The condition of Kali Code is not really good. People who live there just stay at small house and the housesare not really enough to take in the members of 1 family. In a house, there are more than 6 people, including father, mother, kids and grandparents. It’s like slum area in other big city. Based on this, we as students of STBA LIA Yogyakarta, after surveyed many places, we chose Kali Code as our place for Baksos 2014. There are many reasons why we want to hold our Baksos here such as introducing the basic vocabulary of English to the children and recycling the product around themthat it’s not need at all, like bottles and glasses of mineral water.

Firstly, we introduced the basic vocabulary of English. As the English department, we wantedto share our knowledge by sharing and teaching them English. The syllabus was very simple, we introduced basic vocabulary like family tree, occupations, fruits, animals, or short text for the junior high school.Actually, we did it for 3 days and we divided into 2 days for teaching English and the last day we taught them recycling things as like bottles and glasses of mineral water to make decorated lamp and propeller.

The program ran well from the first day till the last day, because the enthusiasm of the children for attending our program, they followed it till the end. We also as the committee and teaching team felt happy and enthusiastic because we could share our knowledge to them. We hope a little knowledge shared to them will be useful for their future. We also wanted to be useful for people by serving our society after graduating from our campus.
