To serve as a teacher of Civil Servants (PNS) has recently attracted the attention of a lot of prospective students. The size of student body of any teacher training study program showed a significant increase. For example, as reported in www.evaluasi.go.id report of semester 2/ 2009, one of the universities in Yogyakarta has at least 1944 students with the English Language Training department and "only" about 200 students with the English Literature department. The same is also accounted in other universities. This trend may have been affected by increase of the welfare of teachers, especially those serving as civil servants. Many prospective university students nowadays are opting for teacher training programs to immediately serve as professional teachers after graduation.
However, today there are interesting developments concerning the roadmap for a graduate of S1 to become a professional teacher. Article 42 Paragraph 1 of Law no. 20/2003 on National Education System (Education System) asserts that educators must have the minimum qualifications and appropriate CERTIFICATION to teach ... .. Law No. 14/2005 on Teachers and Lecturers also explained, "Teachers are required to have academic qualifications, competence, education certificates, physically and mentally healthy, and have the ability to achieve national education goals." Certificate of Education seems to be one of the keys to become professional teachers.
Meanwhile, in Chapter 2 Article 4 of Government Regulation No.. 74/2008 on Teachers and Lecturers also outlined that:

(1) Certification of Educators for teachers should be gained through professional education programs ...
(2) Professional Education Program only attended by students who already have qualified for S-1 or D-IV in accordance with legislation.
In the subsequent elaboration, the PP has also confirmed that non-education graduates also have the same rights as that of the education graduates to become professional teachers, of course by following the rule that is by taking the Professional Teacher Education (PPG). Notes provided in Article 7 of Regulation No. 74/2008 explain that the weight of learning is as follows:
a. for graduates of the S-1 or D-IV education programs focused on strengthening the professional competence; and
b. for graduates of the S-1 or D-IV non-education programs focused on the development of pedagogical competence.
Thus, it has been firm and clear that non-education graduates including graduates of STBA LIA Yogyakarta also have the same opportunity to become professional teachers.
